WELLBEING

Epiphany Dermatology’s Sun Bus will be in Las Cruces to conduct free skin exams 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21, in the parking lot in front of Epiphany Dermatology of Las Cruces, 141 N. Roadrunner Parkway, Suite 228, in the Sonoma Ranch Plaza.

You can schedule an appointment at www.thesunbus.org – click on calendar and scroll down to the Epiphany Tour: Las Cruces, NM, then click on “Schedule your screening in Las Cruces, NM HERE!” Walk-in appointments will also be available on a first-come, first-served basis during the Sun Bus visit.

The Sun Bus is making stops in New Mexico, Texas and Arizona in September and October, with local dermatologists donating their time to conduct the screenings, said Julie Sainz, who is Epiphany Dermatology’s director of regional operations for Las Cruces, El Paso and the state of Montana.

Epiphany bought dermatologist Dr. James Kerner’s Las Cruces practice four years ago and manages that office (where Kerner continues to work as a dermatologist), along with offices in Albuquerque and several other New Mexico locations.

“We follow the lead and culture of the doctor we’re partnering with,” Sainz said. “That’s what made the physician successful to begin with.”

Other staff in the Las Cruces office include certified nurse practitioner Anne Woodling, physician’s assistant Ryan Holcomb, aesthetician Andrea Hollosi and dermatologist Dr. Jennifer Herrmann.

Kerner is well known to the Las Cruces community, working as a dermatologist locally for the past 14 years.

“He is an expert in all aspects of dermatology, including medical dermatology, surgical dermatology and cosmetics,” according to the Epiphany website.

Hermann is a regular visitor to the Las Cruces Epiphany office and is a Mohs surgeon, specializing in cancer-removal surgery, Sainz said.

“Her work is beautiful,” Sainz said of Hermann. “Her ‘befores’ and ‘afters’ are amazing.”

Sainz said annual skin checkups are a good idea in New Mexico because of the sun exposure.

Appointments can be scheduled at the Las Cruces Epiphany office usually within two weeks to a month, she said, and within 48 hours if there is a concern about skin cancer or a doctor’s referral.

Call 575-521-1177 for an appointment and for more information.
