Fight for Medicaid

Posted

Medicaid saved my life. I’m from Las Cruces, and for years I worked on and off through my pain. When it became unbearable, it became impossible for me to work. Thanks to Medicaid, and through a long journey of advocating for myself, I was able to get a diagnosis. Because there was a potential for cancer, I needed surgery quickly, but

along the way I discovered I also had a heart condition that needed to be addressed first. It took multiple specialists, a lot of doctor appointments, and over a year for me to get the surgery I needed. There is no way I could have continued to work through the pain or afforded the doctors without Medicaid. And now I have my life back.

That's why I’m fighting not only for myself but for my community.

It’s devastating that the Trump administration plans to take Medicaid from millions of Americans. In all reality taking Medicaid from us will not solve anything, but intensify the healthcare crisis. People will suffer and die because of this administration's cruel attacks on everyday people.

And not only will people lose Medicaid, rural hospitals and clinics will close, and medical staff will be unemployed by the cuts. The entire system could crumble because of the so-called “Big Beautiful Bill.”

In New Mexico, lawmakers will soon face tough decisions in a special session about how to respond to these federal cuts. We’re counting on them to center real people and real communities — people like me, who depend on Medicaid to survive.

Every human needs and deserves healthcare. We can come together to fight these healthcare cuts and fight for a future where everyone has the chance to live a healthy life.
