Film Las Cruces inducted into state Film and TV Hall of Fame

Film Las Cruces (FLC), the local nonprofit working to bring film and television production to Las Cruces and Doña Ana County, has been inducted into the 2023 New Mexico Film and Television Hall of Fame, FLC said in a news release.

The induction took place Feb. 26 during an awards ceremony at the state capitol in Santa Fe.

FLC President Jeff Steinborn, who is a Doña Ana County state senator, and FLC board member, actor and acting teacher Mark Vasconcellos of Las Cruces accepted the induction award, FLC said.

FLC was honored “for championing film economic development in emerging film communities in the state and successfully helping Las Cruces become one of the top film destinations in the country,” the news release said.

MovieMaker Magazine recently named Las Cruces as one of the top 10 places to live and work as a filmmaker in America.

“I know our entire team, past and present, deeply appreciates this tremendous honor,” Steinborn said. “It has been a long, hard road to help grow the film industry in Las Cruces and we look forward to continued success in Doña Ana County and all of New Mexico.”

"It is great that Film Las Cruces is getting recognized with such an honor but Film Las Cruces couldn't do it without the tremendous help of our local government and community that continues to welcome and embrace the film industry,” said Las Cruces Assistant Film Liaison Andrew Jara. “They deserve just as much acclaim for helping to make Las Cruces a valued destination for the film."

Hafid Abdelmoula, a Las Cruces filmmaker and director of “Broken Gaiete,” which was filmed locally, was recognized at the Feb. 26 event as a 2023 rising star.
