Fire Department shows support for NMSU, Aggie football

The Las Cruces Fire Department (LCFD) is showing support for the New Mexico State Aggies each weekend and during university events by wearing new crimson-colored shirts, the City of Las Cruces said in a news release.

The shirts have been decorated with the text: “Las Cruces Fire” and “New Mexico State Aggies.”

“LCFD is proud to support NMSU, the NMSU Fire Department and the NMSU football team as they continue on during a difficult season,” said Las Cruces Fire Chief Jason Smith.

Firefighters received their new shirts just before the Nov. 6 football matchup between the Aggies and Utah State, and many attended the game to declare their support.

“Our Las Cruces firefighters are heroes who keep us safe every day, so we, in turn, are huge fans of their work,” said NMSU Chancellor Dan Arvizu. “NMSU is proud to be part of the Las Cruces community, and we are incredibly grateful for the strong partnership and support that our city provides.”

City of Las Cruces administration is also encouraging staff to show their commitment to NMSU by being “Caught in Crimson” on casual Fridays by wearing Aggie apparel and colors, the city said.

In past years, city employees would get a chance to win NMSU- and Aggie-related prizes if they submitted photos of themselves or co-workers showing their Aggie pride. The revival of this fun casual Friday event is expected to be bigger and better with opportunities to be featured on the city’s social media pages and prizes to be won that now include tickets to NMSU football and basketball games, apparel, promotional items and fan gear provided by NMSU.
