Fire Department to graduate cadets

Twenty cadets are set to graduate from the Las Cruces Fire Department’s academy on June 28.

The occasion will be makred with a graduation ceremony at 5:30 p.m. at the Doña Ana Community College’s east mesa campus auditorium.

The cadets include Nate Armendariz, Randy Ceballos, Andrew Isaac Corral, Ariel Edkin, Carlos Manuel Escamilla, Jared Lee Evaro, Joseph Guerrero, Erin Lara, Isaac Marin, Bryson Medeiros, Steven Ray Montoya, George Anthony Nino, Gerson Oronia, Josiah Gilbert Paez, Ryan Peraita, Diego Renteria, Miguel Rubalcava, Derik Sanchez, Augustine Wang and Troy Weir.

According to a news release, the fire academy program includes 640 hours of field training and classroom instruction over a 16-week course. The cadets were trained in firefighting techniques, hazardous materials, vehicle extrication, technical rescue and fire inspection.

Four of the graduates who hold EMT-basic licensure will be assigned as soon as June 30 to a fire station for emergency response service. The others will complete their eight-week courses in EMT-basic training to complete their licensure ahead of being assigned.
