Foundation seeks donations for student care kits

The Las Cruces Public Schools Foundation is seeking donations of cash or items for its “Care Kits for Kids.”

The kits are being put together for LCPS high school students in need and are particularly important “because removing any barrier that interferes with student attendance and their ability to learn is crucial,” said LCPS Foundation Executive Director Amy McCarty.

“With the cost of everyday items rising and having to make difficult choices, personal hygiene items are necessities that some students and families go without,” said Las Cruces High School Title I Interventionist Annette Contreras.

The LCPS Foundation will have a drive-through event, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4, at the LCPS Karen S. Trujillo Administration Building, 505 S. Main St., suite 249, during which people can drive into the parking lot of the admin building and an LCPS Foundation Board of Directors member will come to their car to pick up their donations.

Items needed for the kits are shampoo, conditioner, bar soap/body wash, lotion, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, dental floss, Q-tips, razors, shaving cream, feminine products and laundry soap. Also requested are donations of new socks and new underwear for boys and girls in all sizes.

Las Cruces hospitals are partnering with the LCPS Foundation and are serving as drop-off sites for donated items. You can place items in bins located in the lobbies of Memorial Medical Center, 2450 S. Telshor Blvd.; MountainView Regional Medical Center, 4311 E. Lohman Ave.; and Three Crosses Regional Hospital, 2560 Samaritan Drive.

Each kit costs approximately $25, McCarty said, but cash donations of any amount are welcome.

Make a cash donation to the LCPS Foundation Care Kits for Kids personal hygiene drive at https://lcpsf.fcsuite.com/erp/donate/create/fund?funit_id=1264, or text CareKITS4Kids to 44321.

The mailing address is LCPS Foundation, P.O. Box 16214, Las Cruces, N.M. 88004.

Contact McCarty at 575-527-5888 or 505-362-9770.
