Updated story: Fugitive arrested in El Paso
El Paso Police captured a man wanted in connection with the murder of a Las Cruces Sonic employee on March 5.
Officers encountered Luciano Roman Valente Frias in the 9400 block of Alameda in El Paso. Police said Frias brandished a weapon, shots were fired and Frias fled but was apprehended. He was wounded and taken to the hospital.
Las Cruces police are looking for Luciano Roman Valente Frias, who is believed to be responsible for a fatal shooting Tuesday evening at a drive-in restaurant in the 3400 block of Foothills Road.
Las Cruces police and fire departments responded to a call at about 9:40 p.m. on March 4 due to a report of shots fired. Police say they found Benjamin Hernandez, 20, an employee of the restaurant, suffering from at least one gunshot wound.
Police say Hernandez was pronounced dead on the scene.
Police say they learned Hernandez and Frias, also an employee of the restaurant, got into an argument inside the restaurant. Frias allegedly produced a handgun and discharged at least one round, striking Hernandez.
Frias fled from the restaurant on foot, according to police.
The Las Cruces police are continuing their investigation and are actively searching for Frias, 21. He is about 5-feet-5-inches tall and weighs approximately 130 pounds.
Anyone with information on this incident, or the whereabouts of Frias, should call Las Cruces Police at (575) 526-0795.
