Generations Community Writing Project

Project:

Generations Community Writing Project is a program meant to bring together literary artists and provide a platform for them to create, share, and experience the vast literary talent in the community. For the program, eight writers will be selected and paired. Each pair of writers will be at least twenty years apart in age.

As a pair, the writers will determine the depth of their collaboration. Paired writers may write independently or together. As a pair, the writers will introduce one another and will share a 15-minute reading time, including introductions.

Theme:

Writers will be given the theme of “unity” as a starting place for their compositions. Strict adherence to the theme is not required.

Genres:

Writers who write in all genres are encouraged to apply, including, but not limited to, prose, poetry, drama, and creative-nonfiction.

Entry Requirements:

For this project, writers must:

•Be 18 years of age or older

•Reside in Doña Ana County

•Attend two mandatory in-person events (orientation and reading)

Selection Process:

As part of the application process, writers will be asked to provide short bio and artist statements. The judging panel will use this information to select and pair writers.

Bio:

Written in the third person, your bio gives an overview of your professional and personal experiences with a focus on your work as a writer (200 words or less)

Artist’s Statement:

Written in the first person, your artist statement provides insight into you’re the “who,” “what,” “why,” and “how” of your writing. This statement needs to be clear and concise while conveying the essence of you as a writer. (300 words or less)

Judging:

Writer selection and judging for the project will be conducted by a panel of local writers and experts in the field. Decisions reached by panel are final.

Outstanding Submission by Senior of Paired Writers –Plaque

Outstanding Submission by Junior of Paired Writers- Plaque

Writers will also have their work published on the DLCP webpage

All participating writers will receive an event t-shirt

Community Writing Guidelines for Broadcast and Publication:

Since this project is a community writing project, standards of language and content apply. Submitted works must not contain obscenity, both in language and/or explicit sexual or violent content.

In order to create a diverse, respectful community space, we ask overtly partisan pieces which advocate a political party for or against any current or former elected official be left for a different forum.

Work Submission Deadline:

Tuesday, May 24

Reading:

Saturday, June 4 at 6 p.m. in the Rio Grande Theatre Auditorium

Post- Reading Reception and Award Ceremony:

Immediately following reading
