Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham has appointed Fernando Clemente Jr. of Sunland Park as an at-large member of the New Mexico State Game Commission. The appointment was announced Feb. 28.

“Clemente is a wildlife biologist with more than 20 years of expertise and experience across multiple branches of natural resource management, the governor’s office said in a news release. He has owned and operated New Mexico Specialized Wildlife Services since 2012 and has served as a professor at La Universidad Autónoma de Chihuahua since 2021 and as president of the Sunland Park Chamber of Commerce since 2019. Clemente is also president of the La Clinica de Familia board of directors.

Clemente has a bachelor of science in wildlife science from New Mexico State University.

Comprised of seven members, the State Game Commission “sets hunting and fishing regulations, hires the state Department of Game and Fish director, oversees spending of a more than $35 million annual budget and sets the department’s overall direction,” according to www.wildlife.state.nm.us/commission.
