Lt. Gov. Howie Morales was in Las Cruces July 15 to speak at a meeting of the New Mexico State Transportation Commission, supporting a resolution to name a portion of Interstate 10 near Deming in honor of slain New Mexico State Police Officer Darian Jarrott. The meeting was held at the New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum. Jarrott, 28, was shot and killed during a Feb. 4, 2021 traffic stop near milepost 101 in Luna County. The resolution, which was unanimously adopted by the commission, designates I-10 from mile marker 84.8 to mile marker 103.1 as New Mexico State Police Officer Darian Jarrott Memorial Corridor. Jarrott, 28, was a native of Lordsburg. “I was honored to support the creation of this permanent memorial to honor his bravery and dedication to New Mexico,” Morales said in a Tweet.
