HS baseball and softball playoffs

Baseball: All four of the city’s 5A baseball teams have been seeded in the 16-team state baseball tournament.

The first round is a best-of-three series. The first two games are May 5 and 6.

Centennial High School, the No. 6 seed, plays No. 11 Farmington. Las Cruces High School, seeded No. 8, will face No. 9 seed Rio Grande. Organ Mountain High School, seeded No. 13, plays No. 4 Volcano Vista. No. 15-seeded Mayfield High School plays LaCueva, the No. 2 seed.

In the six-team Class 1A tournament, Mesilla Valley Christian School is seeded No. 4, and played Gateway Christian May 3 after the Bulletin’s press time.

Softball: The state softball playoffs begin with single-elimination play-in games May 5-6. Those who advance will be seeded in the eight-team state tournament beginning May 11.

Centennial High School, 26-0, 15-0 in district 5A-3 and ranked No. 1 in the state, plays Capital 6 p.m. Friday, May 5, at the Field of Dreams.

Organ Mountain High School, 17-9, 7-8, ranked No. 10. Plays Cibola noon, Saturday, May 6, at Cibola High School.

Mayfield High School, 15-11, 8-7, plays Albuquerque High 3 p.m., Friday, May 5, in Albuquerque.
