Iris gardens hold open houses this weekend

Posted

More than 240 American Iris Society members from across the United States and some from Canada descended on Las Cruces to learn more about their iris craft and tour iris farms and gardens throughout the area including the Blue J Iris nursery in Vado, Calhoun Flower Farm in La Mesa and the Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum garden in Las Cruces.
They were in town for the American Iris Society convention, April 11-16. The gardens they visited will be open this weekend for the public to take in some floral beauty and enjoy some time outdoors.
The Blue J Iris nursery has an open house, open to the public from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, April 23, 40 Palomino Road, Vado. Visitors are welcome on other days as well, but they request a call, so they know you are coming: 915-780-8927. Visit Blueiris.com.
Calhoun Flower Farm is also having an open house from 9-11 a.m. Friday and Saturday, April 22 and 23. The open house is free, but tickets are required. Visit Calhoun Flower Farms at EventBright to sign up. For more information: 575-526-6661 or calhounflowerfarms.com.
Irises at the New Mexico Farm & Ranch Heritage Museum irises are in front of the building which can be visited at any time during the museum’s open hours at 4100 Dripping Springs Road in Las Cruces. Visit nmfarmandranchmuseum.org.
