Keep Las Cruces Beautiful - Youth Service Day

Posted

Is your youth group interested in participating in the Keep Las Cruces Beautiful Youth Service Day and receiving a $250 stipend?

Keep Las Cruces Beautiful (KLCB) Youth Service Day, on Saturday, April 2, is a new event for youth groups in Las Cruces. The event encourages youth groups to beautify and clean their community by participating in this service day activity.

The cleanup/beautification event is open to any group of youth ages 5 to 24 years. Groups may be as small as 10, or as large as 100.

Each youth group is asked to commit four hours, from 8 a.m. to noon, for this activity.

This event allows groups of youth within the city limits to organize their team, club, class, or group of friends to clean up and beautify an area around the city. Areas may include:

  • Ponding areas.
  • Nearby parks or trails.
  • An area identified by KLCB that needs cleanup or beautification.

Registration for this event begins Friday, March 4 and will continue through Wednesday, March 16. Groups can register online at: https://www.las-cruces.org/FormCenter/Parks-Rec-Forms-14/Keep-Las-Cruces-Beautiful-Youth-Service--143 or at the following locations during regular business hours:

  • Parks & Recreation Department Administrative Office, 1501 E. Hadley Ave., 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Thursday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday.
  • Frank O’Brien Papen Community Center, 304 W. Bell Ave., 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday.

To qualify for funding, groups must have at least 10 participants, complete a KLCB waiver form with all participants listed, complete a City of Las Cruces Vendor form for the stipend payment, and submit all forms back before the deadline of Friday, March 25.

This event has limited funds available, so groups will be randomly selected to participate. They will be notified of their selection and informed of all requirements that must be met by the deadline.

Before the event, all participants are required to sign the waiver form. If any participants are younger than the age of 18, a waiver form must be signed by a parent or guardian.

The award payment of $250 is made following the completion of the service and may take as long as 30 days.

KLCB staff will manage distributing equipment and supplies, such as garbage bags, gloves, safety vests, and trash grabbers. The trash collection and disposal will be coordinated between each group and KLCB staff.

Funding from the New Mexico Tourism Department Clean and Beautiful enables the award of a limited number of stipends to youth groups who participate and fulfill requirements for this event.
