For eight years, the Silver City Gay Pride Festival has been celebrating acceptance, expression and diversity in Grant County. Right from the start, the festival was a success, and each year keeps getting better. This year, LGBTQ Grant County will once again stage an inclusive, intergenerational Pride festival that celebrates the best that Silver City has to offer.
The Pride weekend kicks off from 5-8 p.m., Friday, Sept. 20, with a special Pride Dance in Gough Park,1200 N. Pope Street, Silver City, hosted by DJ Robbie Rob. Food vendors will be present.
The festival itself takes over Gough Park, 11 a.m.-5 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 21. This family-friendly event features a full schedule of talented entertainers and will be headlined by Phoenix’s own Haus of René, a top-flight professional ensemble of drag queens and kings. Community advocates will speak about their work, scores of supportive local business vendors and sponsors will offer their services, Silver City’s famous Doggy Drag Show and so much more will all be back by popular demand.
After hours beginning at 10 p.m. on the same day, Little Toad Creek will host its now-popular drag show – which set attendance records last year – featuring top-flight local and out-of-town talent.
Volunteers are still needed from 2-4 p.m. Friday at Gough Park for set-up of the dance, then again from 8-10 a.m. Saturday to help with set up and decorations of the festival itself. From 5-7 p.m. volunteers will again be needed to help with strike. If you’re interested in being a vendor, there are still spots available. Sign up at www.lgbtqgc.org.
