Las Cruces actor starts new theatre production company

The Blank Conversations Theatre Company is seeking donations to help launch its premiere production

LAS CRUCES - A talented young Las Cruces actor has started his own production company and is seeking donations to help launch its premiere production.

Gus Sanchez, who graduated from Centennial High School (CHS) in May and will be a theatre major at New Mexico State University this fall, has created “The Blank Conversations Theatre Company (BCTC),” which he started with friends Diego and Frankie Gomez.

BCTC charter members also include Bryan Berard, Eva Cullen and Peyton Womble.

“It was this summer that we decided to take on a project and officially establish ourselves in the Las Cruces area,” Sanchez said, fulling a “burning passion” the award-winning actor has held for a long time.

The company’s first production will be the musical “The Last Five Years,” written by Jason Robert Brown, which “tells the story of a couple reflecting on their five-year relationship and its downfall,” Sanchez said. The show will be directed by veteran Las Cruces singer/actor Matt Esqueda.

Sanchez said the company has launched a Kickstarter campaign that will continue through Saturday, Aug. 31, to raise funds to help cover costs for the show, including production rights, materials and performance space.

“We have a projected goal of $2,000, and we need the help of the Las Cruces community to reach that goal; otherwise we do not earn any money from the campaign,” Sanchez said.

Donations may earn rewards, including tickets to the performances and access to behind-the-scenes photos and videos of the production in progress, he said.

Sanchez appeared in eight productions at CHS as well as plays and musicals at Las Cruces Community Theatre (LCCT) and Black Box Theatre (BBT), including recent productions of “The Laramie Project” at LCCT, “The World Goes ‘Round” at BBT and Doña Ana Repertory Theatre’s “The Game’s Afoot.”
