Las Cruces author writes espionage, adventure novel

Posted

Las Cruces author Joe Foster has used his background in surveillance and reconnaissance technologies for the military to write a new espionage and adventure novel.

Foster had been working as a rocket scientist for the U.S. military when planes struck the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center, he said in a news release.

Soon after 9/11, Foster transitioned his expertise into the highly specialized field of hostile-force tagging, tracking and locating, he said. Working with the U.S. Special Operations Command, the FBI and the intelligence community, Foster said he worked side-by-side with U.S. Army Rangers, Navy SEALS and Air Force Combat Controllers to transition his technologies from the laboratory to the rugged environments of the Middle East.

Along the way, he became an FAA-certified pilot, a U.S. Coast-Guard-licensed boat captain and a divemaster.

His latest book, “The BiniSphere,” begins on the eve of World War II, as Ettore Majorana -- one of the most intelligent nuclear physicists in the world -- discovers a new sub-atomic particle. But before his secret can get out, he mysteriously disappears. The repercussions of the young physicist's actions leave waves that, 80 years later, reach the rocky shores of Ocean Point, Maine.

Perry Franklin, a U.S. government researcher, is pulled from forced retirement to investigate a strange phenomenon that shut down one of the CIA’s most sophisticated spy satellites. Odd clues soon lead him to an isolated village on the northern coast of Sicily, where he finds much more than he was looking for.

To avoid disturbing the delicate balance of nuclear powers, Franklin must put his career and his life in the hands of a woman, a family and a culture unlike any he’d experienced before.
