Las Cruces pregnancy help center gets new home, thanks to Rawson family

Posted

Turning Point of Las Cruces, a nonprofit that provides information and assistance with planned and unplanned pregnancies, is getting a new home.

At a fundraiser held Thursday night, Sept. 30, at New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum, Turning Point Director Debbie Taylor announced that the Rawson family of Las Cruces has donated a building to the organization at 705 N. Main St. that will double Turning Point’s size.

Lee and George Rawson were on hand at the event to give Taylor the key to the new building.

Taylor and Turning Point Board of Directors Vice President Jeremy Sullivan said the nonprofit is hoping to raise $75,000 to renovate and furnish the new location.

Turning Point also celebrated its 11th anniversary during the Sept. 30 event, which was billed as Punchlines with a Purpose and featured live entertainment by comedian Robert G. Lee of California (www.robertglee.com.) It was a delayed 10th anniversary celebration, Sullivan said, as Turning Point was unable to have a public gathering in honor of its decade of service because of the pandemic.

With virtual classes and continuing to provide diapers and other pregnancy-related needs and supplies, Taylor said Turning Point continued to have “major contact, major impact” during the Covid-19 shutdown – “connecting with mamas and making an impact on dads,” she said. “This year was really exciting in terms of growth.”

The fundraiser was catered by Dickerson Catering (www.dickersongrouplc.com/catering).
