Posted

The Las Cruces Youth Orchestra (LCYO) performs its premiere fundraising concert at 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 14, at Atkinson Recital Hall in the New Mexico State University Music Building, 1075 N. Horseshoe on the NMSU campus.

Tickets are $5 for adults and free for children. Donations to support LCYO will also be accepted.

The concert presents middle and high school students from throughout Las Cruces in a variety of ensembles, including chamber music, conductorless chamber orchestra, and string orchestra with Youth Orchestra Conductor Ray Arreola and Artistic Director Simón Gollo at the podium. “Audience members will also be treated to a fantastic performance by Maestro Gollo’s Reveron Piano Trio, featuring pianist Ana María Otamendi and cellist Horacio Contreras who will perform alongside students throughout the concert,” LCYO said in a news release.

The program features music by Smetana, Saint-Saens and Elgar, along with holiday favorites.

LCYO was begun in September. Its artistic staff includes Ana Maria Quintero, violin; Hyerim Mapp, cello; Ian Narlock, bass; and the La Catrina Quartet as guest faculty. Youth symphony instructors come from as far away as Colombia and Korea.

Anyone wishing to join LCYO is encouraged to email lascrucesyouthorchestra@gmail.com. Cost is $295 per semester.

LCYO is administered by the nonprofit Las Cruces Symphony Association, Inc.

The LCYO office is in Room No. 209 of the Music Building. Call 575-646-4733 and email lascrucesyouthorchestra@gmail.com. Visit www.lascrucesyouthorchestra.com.
