Latest COVID figures; food distribution outlets

Daily statistics

According to the Centers of Disease Control, www.cdc.gov, the national confirmed COVID-19 cases increased from 54,453 March 25, to 68,440 March 26. There have been 994 deaths.

In New Mexico, confirmed cases rose from 112 March 25 to 136 March 26 (with one death) and 16 cases in Doña Ana County. However, the state announced its first COVID-related death, an Eddy County man in his late 70s, with multiple chronic underlying health issues, tested postive. In Texas, cases increased from 974 March 25 to 1,396 March 26, with 18 deaths. El Paso County has confirmed 21 cases. Information from Mexico is more difficult to track, but Ciudad Juarez has so far confirmed five cases, and the Juarez mayor has ordered a suspension of public events and gatherings and temporarily closed many businesses and services.

School closure to be extended

Friday morning, Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham will hold a press conference to announce the extension of New Mexico’s public school closure.

Currently, all schools are closed through April 6. No specific time is given for the Friday press conference, and there are no specifics yet as to how long the closure will be extended.
