Mesilla Valley Christian student helps neighbor with elaborate tree setup

Posted

Samuel McGillivray, a senior at Mesilla Valley Christian School, helped a Las Cruces neighbor, Karen, put up this tree in her home. Karen recently lost her husband, and Sam wanted to help her keep their tradition of putting up a special tree at Christmas going. Using more than 600 pieces that had been part of a Christmas village, it took them more than two weeks of work to decorate the 15-foot tree, Sam said. Karen’s husband had worked for the railroad and was a car enthusiast, “so we added a train station along with a train that goes around the bottom,” Sam said. A Hallmark pedal car collection was also added, along with a plane that flies around the top of the tree to honor Karen’s father, who was in the U.S. Air Force.
