Las Cruces Public Schools Coordinator of Health Services Shawna Bailey, LCPS Director of Nursing Services Sandy Peugh and Las Cruces Sunrise Lions President Frank "Cisco" Rivera. The Sunrise Lions Club of Las Cruces donated an otoacoustic emissions machine (AOE) to LCPS Health Services Department. The machine is used to test students’ hearing. School nurses screen the hearing on all pre-K, kindergarten, first-, third- and sixth-graders annually, along with students new to the school district, students whose parents or teacher have expressed concerns about the student’s hearing and all students initially being evaluated for special education During the 2018-19 school year, school nurses screened the hearing of 9,559 students.
