The City of Las Cruces Parks and Recreation Department will host a Mother’s Day concert at 5 p.m. Sunday, May 8, at Plaza de Las Cruces, 100 N. Main St.

The concert will be a free family event, the city said in a news release.

Headlining the Mother’s Day Concert is award-winning Tejano music legend Little Joe y La Familia. Country music star Rick Trevino will open the show.

During a more than 50-year performing and recording history, Little Joe y La Familia has become one of the most popular Tex-Mex bands in the music industry. Through decades the group has developed a unique style, imbuing its sound with a mix of Norteño, country, blues and rock.

Described as “King of the Brown Sound,” “Little Joe” (Jose Hernandez) helped pioneer Tejano music, winning five Grammy Awards along the way, the news release said.

Beginning with “She Can’t Say I Didn’t Cry” in 1994, Rick Trevino has had several hits with his blend of country, Spanish and rock music, the city said.
