ACTION PROGRAMS FOR ANIMALS

Local animal rescue organization has July fundraising auction

Posted

The ACTion Programs for Animals (APA) Second Chance Thrift Store is joining forces with Mesilla Valley Estate Sales for an auction benefitting the nonprofit animal rescue organization.

The auction begins Thursday, July 15, and ends Thursday, July 22. Anyone interested in bidding on items should visit nmestateauctions.com starting the middle of July, APA said in a news release.

All auction items were locally sourced from customer donations. Bidding for items will begin with a 99-cent starting bid.

The auction will include: art; housewares; jewelry; sterling-silver flatware service for 20; Yamaha golf cart;  pre-owned vehicle; and other “carefully curated items,” APA said.

All proceeds of the auction will benefit APA, which is a progressive animal welfare organization seeking to improve the quality of life for companion animals in Doña Ana County and greatly reduce the number of unwanted animals impounded and euthanized at the municipal shelter.

APA Executive Director Michel Meunier said fundraisers like this one allow the organization to rescue more animals in the community.

“Since May 2012, APA has rescued more than 5,000 animals, the majority of which have been dogs, cats and kittens pulled from our municipal shelter,” said Meunier. “We are able to do this through the tireless volunteer work of our rescue and foster coordinators, foster families, weekend adoptions and fundraising events, such as this auction in partnership with Mesilla Valley Estate Sales.”

The APA Second Chance Thrift Store is located at 2475 N. Main St. and is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

The APA adoption center is located at 537 N. Solano Drive. Hours of operation are 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday and by appointment.
