DANCE FOR ALL/ALL FOR DANCE

Local dance groups in step for Nov. 11-13 collaborative dance performances

Posted

Five Las Cruces dance groups will come together for three performances of a dance collaborative.

“Dance for All/All for Dance” will include dancers from Lifted Dance Collective, Las Cruces High School Performing Dance, New Mexico State University DanceSport Company, NMSU Dancers Unlimited and Verdi Dance Academy of Las Cruces.

Performances will be at 7 p.m. Thursday-Friday, Nov. 11-12, and at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, with a reception immediately following the Nov. 13 performance.

Performances will be at the LCHS performing arts lab, 1755 El Paseo Road, at the corner of El Paseo and Boutz Road.

Tickets are $5 for students and $10 for adults and will be available at the door at each performance.

NMSU professor emerita Debra Knapp, who is director of Lifted Dance Collective, and Lisette Martinez, director of dance at LCHS, are co-directors of the collaborative, which will include a variety of dance styles, themes, music and ages.

“Creating a community dance event brings together those who love to dance and perform,” Knapp said. “When professional dancers, pre-professional and young dancers share the stage we see a progression of artistic development. The Las Cruces community has seen several of the Lifted Dance Collective members perform since they were in elementary school at the NMSU Dance Program's summer concerts.  Seeing dancers mature into moving artists is such a delight.”

"Collaborative performances are such an amazing learning experience for dancers,” Martinez said. “They are surrounded by those that share the same passion, so it no longer feels like work! Students are exposed to new dance styles, dancers of all skill levels they learn from and, at the same time, make memories during their performance experience they will carry with them forever."
