Love Las Cruces unveils murals

Posted

The nonprofit Love Las Cruces unveiled two brand new downtown murals by artist Zach Buchner Monday evening, Jan. 30, on the south side of Rad Retrocade, 201 N. Main St.

A New Mexico native and 2001 graduate of Oñate (now Organ Mountain) High School with a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology from New Mexico State University, Buchner said he used geometry, perspective and colored tiles to create the murals, titled La Placita Sunrise and Roadrunner Xing.

Buckner, who now lives in Albuquerque, donated his time in creating the murals, which he said are his first in Las Cruces.

Love Las Cruces hosted the unveiling in partnership with Party Tenders Events, Alycia Jameson, who is the owner of D2 Designs and Party Tenders Events, executive director of Love Las Cruces and coordinator of the Las Cruces Coats for Kids program. The mural project was also supported by Adams Radio Group, Rad Retrocade, Walmart and CPR 4 Life, and “made possible by all that have supported Party Tenders festivals on the Plaza de Las Cruces,” Jameson said.

Love Las Cruces was formed in 2022 “to beautify Las Cruces through community cleanup events, murals, food pantries and community gardens.

“Let’s continue to embrace the beauty of our land and culture and continue coming together and keeping Las Cruces beautiful, and representing New Mexico through inspired hearts and minds,” Jameson said.

The murals are located in La Placita between Rad Retrocade and The Boneyard.
