Mask up event canceled

City Council District 1 event postponed

Posted

The “Mask Up to Clean Up” City Council District 1 cleanup event has been postponed to a later date, due to the Office of the Governor’s shelter in place public health emergency order which went into effect November 16 - November 30. The event was originally scheduled for Saturday, November 21.

The City Council District 1 cleanup was set to launch a series of council district events when community members can help clean up their neighborhoods or litter-prone areas of the city. The next event scheduled is for City Council District 2 from 8 a.m. – noon, December 19 with a roll-off container located at 800 Parkview Dr. (Frenger Park). This date may be subject to change depending on any public health orders at that time.

“Mask Up to Clean Up!”, a COVID-safe version of the “Team Up to Clean Up” program, is a call to enlist community members during this time of COVID to voluntarily pitch in to do cleanup activities, while practicing pandemic safety guidelines, that create a cleaner, safer, and healthier environment.

“Team Up to Clean Up!” is a beautification program initiated in 2019 to help reverse the process of neighborhood deterioration and enhance the quality of life in the city. Roll off containers are set up within the specified districts during their cleanup events which can be used by community members doing cleanups in their yards, neighborhoods, vacant lots, or other locations.

Residents can find their city council district at www.las-cruces.org/DistrictMap, and all events are 8 a.m. – noon  on each date. Roll-off container locations will be announced before each event. The tentative schedule for cleanups:
