Town of Mesilla Mayor Nora Barraza lit the Mesilla Christmas tree on the historic plaza shortly after 6 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 4, officially bringing the holiday season to one of the most popular tourism and shopping destinations in southern New Mexico. The Zia Middle School Chamber Choir performed during the ceremony. In her speech before lighting the tree, Barraza said, “In the season of hope, let’s help those who need it most.” The tree will be decorated with ornaments created by students from Mesilla Elementary. Mesilla businesses will have extended hours for late shopping.
