MESILLA VALLEY FINE ARTS GALLERY

Mesilla gallery hosts artists Patricia Black, Hetty Smith in January

Posted

The Mesilla Valley Fine Arts Gallery (MVFG), 2470-A Calle de Guadalupe on the historic plaza in Mesilla, across from the Fountain Theatre, will feature the works of two local artists in January 2021: Patricia Black and Hetty Smith.

Black is a gourd artist and watercolorist. She is self-taught and worked as a graphic artist for many years in the giftware industry. She lived in northern California and Colorado before moving to New Mexico in 2006. She has won numerous awards, and her work is featured in Northern Light Books.

Smith’s love for stained glass started while she was growing up in Holland. Homes, apartments and churches in Europe were decorated with unique stained glass in the windows, which inspired her creativity. Smith attended a class at Doña Ana College, which helped develop her passion for stained glass. She also uses her knowledge as a dressmaker to design and color selections.

MVFG’s newest member is John Glass.  Originally from rural Indiana, Glass settled in the mountains outside of Deming. His pursuit of art is a daily routine. Glass’ works are accepted continually in state and regional competitions, along with awards from The Hoosier Salon, The Sarasota Art League and Master Works of New Mexico. He is a signature member of the New Mexico Watercolor Society.

First American Bank, 1553 Avenida de Mesilla, is well represented by gallery members who rotate their artwork monthly at the bank.

MVFG features the work of 30 artists in various media, including oil, acrylics, pastels, watercolor, fused glass art jewelry, woodturnings, stained glass, photography, ceramics, mixed media, decorated gourds, handmade textile weavings, art tile, fiber art, natural gemstone jewelry, colored pencil, basket weavings, charcoal, pen and ink, prints, cards and miniature paintings.

MVFG is open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. daily with limited access because of public health orders.
