Mesilla Valley Chorale begins new season with Doug Weeks as accompanist; holiday concert is Dec. 11

The Mesilla Valley Chorale (MVC) will be joined by the group’s new accompanist, Doug Weeks, when it begins rehearsals Sept. 12 for its Sunday, Dec. 11 Christmas/holiday concert, MVC said in a news release. Weeks retired earlier this year after almost 27 years as St. Paul’s United Methodist Church music director.

MVC’s Christmas/holiday concert will begin at 3 p.m. Dec. 11, at Rio Grande Theatre, 211 N. Main St. downtown. It will include holiday and seasonal favorites such as “Carol of the Bells,” “And the Angels Sang,” “I’ll Be Home for Christmas,” “Shepherd’s Pipe Carol” and many more.

Tickets are $10 and will be available at www.mesillavalleychorale.org and at the door.

MVC, under the direction of Carol Nike, has been active in the community for 50 years.

MVC “is a mixed-voice, eight-part diverse group of singers who share a passion for performing choral music,” said long-time member Ray Scroggins.

In addition to Nike and Weeks, other music team members include Assistant Director Judy Bethmann and Assistant Accompanist Karen Warren.

MVC rehearses on 7-9 p.m. Mondays in the choir room at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church (Alameda Street entrance), 225 W. Griggs Ave.

Anyone interested in joining MVC should visit www.mesillavalleychorale.org and click on “JOIN MVC.”
