MESILLA VALLEY FINE ARTS GALLERY

Mesilla Valley Fine Arts Gallery to feature Bissell, Widner in April

Posted

Nanci Bissell and Roberta Widner will be April’s featured artists at Mesilla Valley Fine Arts Gallery, 2470-A Calle de Guadalupe, across from the Fountain Theatre in Mesilla.

Bissell graduated from Texas A&M University with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education and a minor in art studies. She has been an elementary-school educator, teacher, assistant principal and principal, retiring after a 26-year career. Her paintings have been exhibited around the United States, and her interests include seascapes, portraits and landscapes.

Widner is a native New Mexican, and the state and its people have been frequent subjects for her paintings. She also gained inspiration from travels to the Iberian/Italian and French regions of Europe. She said she feels very fortunate to have had many fine classic and plein air instructors.

In addition to the gallery, First American Bank, 1553 Avenida de Mesilla, is well represented by gallery members who rotate their artwork there on a monthly basis.

The gallery’s 30 artists offer art in various media, including original paintings, oil, acrylics, pastels, watercolors, fused-glass art jewelry, one-of-a-kind woodturnings, stained glass, photography, drawings (pencil, charcoal and ink), ceramics, mixed media, decorated gourds, handmade textile weavings, fiber art, art tile, gemstone jewelry, handcrafted-basket weavings, prints, cards and miniature paintings.

Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m. daily.
