Bulletin report

Doña Ana County NAACP celebrates Juneteenth with a gospel explosion featuring recording artist Mama Sue at 7 p.m., Saturday, June 18 at Latter Rain Harvest Fellowship Church, 401 N. Main St. Mama Sue is a featured gospel artist on BET’s Sunday’s Best program.

Juneteenth is the oldest known celebration commemorating the ending of slavery in the U.S., according to Juneteenth.com. Dating back to 1865, it was on June 19 that Union soldiers, led by Major General Gordon Granger, landed at Galveston, Texas with news that the war had ended and that the enslaved were now free. Tickets to Gospel Explosion are $10 and are available at the door or my email at info@naacpdonaana. org.
