DOÑA ANA COUNTY

National Day of Prayer observed in Doña Ana County

Posted

In recognition of the 71st annual National Day of Prayer, a prayer event will take place on Thursday, May 5 on the north lawn of the Doña Ana County Government Center, 845 N. Motel Blvd., from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. The public is invited.

“On this National Day of Prayer, let us meditate, offer prayers and warm wishes for each other,” said Dist. 4 County Commissioner Susana Chaparro. “Let us decide to see the best in each other. Let us take this opportunity to reflect on how fortunate we are that we live in a country where we have the freedom to pray, if we chose to do so.”

The one-hour community celebration of music and prayer aims to bring together people of all faiths for a moment of solidarity around things we hold dear and in common. “The program includes people from all walks of life,” Isabella Solis, former county commissioner and coordinator for the local event, said. “We want everyone to know there is a place for them and they are welcome to come.”

A proclamation issued by the Board of County Commissioners on April 26 will be read at the event. Prayers will be offered for families, the nation, the economy, businesses, first responders, teachers, students, elected officials and more. The event will be free flowing, allowing visitors to come and go as they choose. Similar events are taking place in communities across the country.

Seating and water will be provided for those who attend.
