New Allsups location celebrates National Burrito Day on April 3

The gas station, Allsups, famous for its burritos, expanded to a new location in the Sonoma Ranch neighborhood just in time for National Burrito Day on April 3.

And they have been busy. According to Allsup’s employee Lauran Asay, a customer purchased 50 of the popular burritos on the gas station’s opening day, March 27.

National Burrito Day celebrates Hispanic heritage, food and culture. The burrito likely got its name because street vendors sold burritos from baskets carried by burros.

But customers didn’t wait for National Burrito Day to purchase their burritos from the new Allsups, located at 4202 Engler Road.

Allsup’s has an entire menu, from burgers to chicken tenders, and their most popular, chimichanga burritos.

The popular gas station has burritos that have sausage and egg, beef and bean, chicken and cheese, and green chile burritos.

“National Burrito Day is a favorite occasion for our team and our customers,” said Tom Trkla, chairman and chief executive officer of the owner, Yesway. “We’re excited to celebrate with [an] exclusive offer and invite all burrito fans to join the fun as Rewards Members.”

Asay said she started working at the Allsups on Mountain Vista Parkway and she has never seen the gas station be so busy as the opening of the new gas station was last week.

“We’re just well-known for our deep-fried burritos,” Asay said.

Asay said she had not seen any one purchase as many as 50 burritos at one time before.

“Our burritos are good, but 50 had not happened before. We had to make some more on the spot aside from those that we had in the display heater,” she said.

She added that she also loves Allsup’s burritos but her go to is the chimichanga.

Another employee, Blake Whitlock, just started as an Allsup’s employee. He said many of the people he helps are buying burritos.

“We get a lot of people for our burritos. That’s a majority of who I have helped this morning,” as he packed a beef and bean burrito for one customer.

“I think we’ll probably be full or running out of burritos [on National Burrito Day],” Whitlock said.
