New book highlights battle with Alzheimer’s, power of love

Author Dominick Domasky’s new book “My Name Is Sharon,” is the story of his mother, Las Cruces native and 1963 Las Cruces High School graduate Sharon Domasky, formerly Sharon Linard.

“My mother can no longer share her story,” Dominick Domasky said. “Alzheimer's has robbed her of that. However, I feel it is my duty to share her grace and light.”

Dominick said his hope for the book was to “write a story of unconditional love between mother and son.”

Dominick lives in Pittsburgh and is the founder of Motivation Champs, a company that “publishes books and shares inspiration,” he said, adding that his mother’s story is “one that needed to be heard.”

Sharon Domasky grew up on Princess Jeanne Street in Las Cruces, Dominick Domasky said. Her mother, Sharlyn Linard, served in the New Mexico House of Representatives 1975-78, representing Doña Ana County District 37. Sharon’s father worked at White Sands Missile Range, where he served with the military police.

“Even through this battle (with Alzheimer’s) today, her clearest memories come from those early days,” Dominick said. “As a storyteller, I wanted to share mom's story, one that is more than a victim of disease.”

“My Name is Sharon,” published in July, is available from amazon.com.
