International Women’s Day is Sunday, March 8, and a recently formed Las Cruces group – The Association – highlights the impact of women who run local businesses and non-profits in our area.
Launched in January by local businesswomen Sumer Rose-Nolen and Marci Dickerson, The Association is being branded as “a professional development group for women.”
“Women are truly making an impact in our area and are showing no signs of slowing down,” Dickerson said. “In 2020, most of our nonprofits and professional associations are being led by women in elected and paid positions who will one day match the pay of their male counterparts.”
“I saw a gap in the area of professional development for women in Las Cruces,” said Rose-Nolen, owner of SRN Financial Services. “I am or have been a member of many great organizations, groups, boards and events in our community, but there was nothing specific to women in helping them achieve their desired levels of success.”
The Association membership drafted a mission statement to clarify its objective: “To provide resources for professional women in their endeavors for career advancement [and] to bring those women together in order to assist them in being successful, resourceful, challenged, powerful and balanced.”
The Association hosts monthly events and boasts a membership of more than 100 women, and it welcomes others to join. The group has already recognized 37 women for their accomplishments in and contributions to the local area.
