New Mexico is 12th highest in unemployment-claims increase

Personal finance website WalletHub said 33.5 million Americans have lost their jobs as of May 6 because of COVID-19, and that New Mexico’s unemployment rate increased 2,324 percent April 2020 vs April 2019. It said the state had 16,801 unemployment claims the week of April 27, 2020 vs 693 claims the week of April 29, 2019 – the 12th highest increase among all states. New Mexico has the 26th highest increase in unemployment claims since the pandemic began in March.
