NM State Athletics this weekend

Women’s Soccer: The Aggie soccer team, on Sept. 29,  shut out Tarleton State 4-0, then on Oct. 2 defeated Abilene Christian 1-0. Megan Ormson, a junior forward from Folsom, California, scored goals in both matches. They were the fifth and sixth shutouts for goalie Makenna Gottschalk, who also recorded her 48th save. The two victories improved NMSU’s record to 6-3-3 overall and 3-1-2 in conference play. The Aggies host Southern Utah at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, at the NM State Soccer complex, then hit the road for a Sunday, Oct. 9, match in St. George, Utah, against Utah Tech. Based on points, NMSU is currently leading the WAC, but Southern Utah, Utah Tech and Utah Valley are tied for second, so this weekend should have a big impact on the standings.

Volleyball: The Aggies split a pair of matches versus teams from Utah in the Pan Am last week. NMSU defeated Southern Utah 3-1 Sept. 29 and fell to Utah Tech 3-1 Oct. 1. The Aggies are now 9-6 overall and 2-2 in the WAC. NMSU heads to Texas for a pair of conference games this weekend. They’ll play Sam Houston Oct. 8, and to Edinburg Monday, Oct. 10, to face Texas-Rio Grande Valley in an effort to avenge a loss Sept. 22 in Las Cruces.
