LAS CRUCES, N.M. – The NM State baseball team will play host to Sacramento State for a three-game series as the two squads battle for position in the WAC West. The two teams will square off on the WAC Digital Network on Friday and Sunday, while the Saturday showdown can be found on ESPN+, Bally Sports Arizona, and Comcast New Mexico.   

AGGIE FACTS 

  • The three-game set with the Hornets will be the only scheduled meetings between the WAC opponents in 2022.
  • The three home games against Sacramento State will be the 19th-21st games at Presley Askew Field this season. 
  • Kevin Jimenez, Brandon Dieter, and Logan Gallina each have tallied at least 30 hits for NM State this season.  
  • Gunner Antillon went 1-4 with an RBI in his return to the NM State lineup on Tuesday against New Mexico. The Rancho Cucamonga, California native had missed the previous nine games with an injury. Antillion leads the Aggies with a .409 batting average on the season.
  • NM State is coming off of a 1-2 weekend against Grand Canyon, who is appearing in various Top 25 polls around the country.
  • Next Tuesday, the Aggies will head to Tucson to face No. 9 Arizona in the first of two midweek contests this season. The Wildcats will make the return trip to Las Cruces on Tuesday, April 26.
  • Nolan Funke has made at least three starts at three different positions this season - Left field, third base, and first base. Tommy Tabak and Cal Villareal have both made starts in all three outfield positions for the Aggies.  
  • Ryan Grabosch has hit in six different positions in the Aggies starting lineup this season. Grabosch has gotten the nod in the 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 holes in the NM State lineup. 
  • Brandon Dieter and Kevin Jimenez have started all 22 games for the Aggies so far. Dieter has started every game at shortstop for the Aggies. Jimenez saw his 21-game streak of starts at second base come to an end on Tuesday against New Mexico when he started as the designated hitter.

ABOUT THE HORNETS 

  • Earlier this season, Sacramento State found itself inside the Top 25 after sweeping No. 6 Long Beach State on the road.  
  • Sacramento State began the season 7-0 with a four-game sweep of Northern Illinois and the three-game sweep of Long Beach State. 
  • The Hornets went 1-2 in each of its first three WAC series against Dixie State, Seattle U, and Grand Canyon before taking two against Utah Valley. 
  • Earlier this week, the Hornets lost 20-5 in a Tuesday night contest at Nevada.  
  • Nick Iwasa leads Sacramento State at the plate with a .346 batting average in 78 at-bats. In 25.0 innings pitched, Jack Zalasky has posted a team-best 2.16 ERA with a 3-2 record, including two saves. 
  • The series in Las Cruces marks the fifth, sixth, and seventh consecutive road contests for Sacramento State.
