NMSU golfer birdies five out of first nine holes at Stanford Regional

New Mexico State golfer Karen Miyamoto birdied five of the first nine holes in the opening round of the Stanford Regional tournament Monday in California.

Miyamoto carded a 2-under 69 for the first round and is tied for seventh place with two more rounds to play.

The NMSU women’s team is in 11th place after shooting a combined 292 (plus 8). The Aggie women are just three shots from the top six.

Freshman Alex Quihuis shot a 1-over par 72 with two birdies and is tied for 26th. Pun Chanachai shot a 3-over par 74.

The Aggies will continue tomorrow at the Stanford Regional with tee times beginning at about 9 a.m. Mountain time.
