Posted

Senior Daniel Miller of the New Mexico State University Theatre Arts Department won the sound design competition at the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival regional competition, held Feb. 23-27 in Abilene, Texas.

NMSU theatre arts students Jenna Ivey (acting) and Yamilex Holguin (costume design), both seniors, were semi-finalists in the festival competition. Sophomore Brianna Horvath (dance) reached the competition finals.

Ivey and Horvath were both in the cast of the Theatre Department’s production of “25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,” for which Holguin was costume designer, Horvath was also the choreographer and Miller ran sound.

Miller and the other regional winners will compete for the festival’s national award for sound design excellence at the national competition, which will be held April 6-10 at the John F. Kennedy Center of the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C. The festival has eight regions. New Mexico is part of Region VI, which also includes Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas.
