NMSU women’s track program gets new surface

Posted

The university’s Athletics Department announced the completion of a $480,00 resurfacing project at the women track and field program’s outdoor venue.

The project began in May and was completed in early October. It was paid for with money from the state capital outlay process.

With the newly resurfaced track, NMSU hopes to host a home meet for the first time since 2006.

“Our women’s track and field program has more than deserved this,” said NMSU Athletics Director Mario Moccia. “For many years, they have trained on a surface that was not conducive to success, but year in and year out they have put in an amazing effort that culminated with a championship in 2020.”

NMSU women’s track won its first WAC indoor track championship in the spring of 2020 and in spring 2021, the Aggies took second place at the WAC outdoor championships.

Since 2018, 15 NMSU track athletes have advanced to the NCAA Women’s Outdoor West Preliminary meet and the Aggies have finished first, second or third at each of the last three WAC indoor and outdoor championship meets.
