VETERANS OF FOREIGN WARS

Outstanding teacher nominations sought for VFW awards

Posted

Every summer and fall, the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) recognizes three exceptional teachers for their outstanding commitment to teaching Americanism and patriotism to their students.

The three winning teachers each receive $1,000 for professional development, $1,000 for their school and an all-expenses-paid trip to the VFW’s national convention.

Teachers of any grade level, including kindergarten, can be nominated by fellow teachers, students, supervisors or other interested individuals.

Teachers who promote civic responsibility, flag etiquette and patriotism and strive to help students develop a better understanding of democratic values and beliefs are prime candidates for the award.

Nomination forms are due by Oct. 31.

To nominate a teacher, contact one of the three Las Cruces area VFW posts.

Post 6917 can be reached at 575-382-9703, Post 3242 can be reached at 575-527-0443 and Post 10124 can be reached at 575-526-5761.
