LAS CRUCES PUBLIC SCHOOLS

Parents invited to Q & A webinar with LCPS superintendent

Posted

Parents and families of students in the Las Cruces Public School district are invited to a question and answer webinar hosted by LCPS Superintendent Dr. Karen Trujillo. The 90-minute session will be offered in English and Spanish and will address parents’ questions and concerns as students and staff prepare for back to school in an all-remote setting.

During a meeting of the Board of Education last week, Trujillo made the decision to suspend plans for a hybrid return to school in favor of going back in the “red” model, which allows educators to teach remotely. In the red model, grab-and-go meals are provided from select locations and through bus delivery to rural LCPS populations. Coronavirus testing metrics were a catalyst of that decision, along with concerns from teachers, staff and members of the board who expressed concern over safety.

LCPS will be working in the coming weeks to schedule technology checkouts for students who need a device to complete their work through Canvas, the learning management system used for sharing information in a virtual classroom and turning in work. School officially begins on Aug. 12.

The first webinar will be hosted from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, July 22. A Spanish version will be hosted on Thursday, July 23, also from 5:30 to 7 p.m. The webinar will feature a brief presentation from Trujillo, followed by a moderated question and answer session.

To access the webinar, click on www.livestream.com/lcpstv. Families must register for a Vimeo account to ask questions in the chat feature of the livestream. Questions can be sent ahead of time to returnplan@lcps.net.
