‘Playful Boundaries’ features seven artists, nonprofit

“Playful Boundaries” will remain on view at the Doña Ana Arts Council through July.

The exhibit is described as “an explosion of mixed media created by seven artists and Beloved Community, a nonprofit organization that builds community by engaging the gifts of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

Viewers will be able to see sculpture, fiber art, cloth mache, encaustic paintings, and small works fashioned from kitchen items and various household hardware.

“Our intent is to provide a fun summer show that families and the community will be drawn to,” said Karen Conley, program and gallery manager at the Arts Council. 

Karen Zibert and Carrie Greer, both encaustic artists, are showing work in the exhibition. Encaustic art is a beeswax art form over a thousand years old.

Greta Burger, Jan French and Lisa Riley create art that is considered assemblage, often made from found objects or using mechanical parts in a new way.

Heather Murphy and Jan Thune both work with fiber and cloth.

Beloved Community is sharing its final project titled “Whimsical Way,” based on the children’s book “The Big Orange Splot” by Daniel Manis Pinkwater. More than 45 community members participated. 

The Doña Ana Arts & Cultural Center and DAAC administrative office are located at 250 W.
