Las Cruces residents can be assured the Las Cruces Police Department will have no reduction of officers on patrol – and state and local laws will continue to be enforced – during this public health emergency. Out of an abundance of caution, and in keeping with state and federal recommendations on limiting personal contacts, we implemented temporary procedures that keeps law enforcement services fully operational while reducing LCPD station office hours of operation. By doing this, we have reduced the risks of exposure to our employees and to those who might have reason to visit LCPD.
Until further notice, LCPD’s East Mesa Public Safety office on Sonoma Ranch is closed to the public. Our main office, at 217 E. Picacho Ave., is open to the public only on Monday and that’s primarily so residents can stop by and retrieve a police record. We encourage residents who need to file a report to call (575) 526-0795 for non-emergencies or call 911 if it’s an emergency.
For general questions, call 575-528-4127, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Our highest priority is keeping our community safe. That also means helping to keep our community healthy. We strongly encourage residents to follow established recommendations on social distancing and limiting - or eliminating - group gatherings. It’s vitally important to follow these recommendations to keep us healthy and reduce the strain on our local healthcare providers. If you can, stay home and limit physical contacts with others.
We’d also like to ask residents to refrain from hoarding items from grocery stores and supermarkets.
Our officers face dangers every day, but the risk of exposure to COVID-19 should not be one of those dangers. We ask anyone who may have flu-like symptoms, or who has recently traveled to a high-risk area, to please relay that information immediately to the Central Dispatch call-taker or before having face-to-face contact with a first responder.
First responders from throughout our community are here to help. We ask our residents to do their part in helping limit the spread of this virus so we can have a quicker return to normalcy.
