Las Cruces Police have identified the man who died in the shooting on Walnut Street last week on Thursday, May 8th as Josiah Perrault, 18.
Perrault succumbed to injuries he received during the incident that occurred about 6:30 a.m. Thursday, May 8, 2025, in the 900 block of Walnut Street. Another man believed to be involved in the incident was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The officer involved in the shooting has been put on paid administrative leave and his name has not been released to the public. The officer was not injured.
No further information is available about the shooting until Las Cruces Police hold a press conference next week. The press conference has been delayed until May 20th.
A group called the Officer-involved Incident Task Force is investigating the May 8 shooting. The task force includes investigators from New Mexico State Police, the Las Cruces Police Department, Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Office and New Mexico State University Police.
