LAS CRUCES PUBLIC SCHOOLS

Public survey to rename the LCPS administration complex

Posted

During the March 16th Regular Session, the Las Cruces Public Schools Board of Education asked Interim Superintendent Ralph Ramos to appoint a committee chair to form a committee under Regulation FFA-RA (Naming School Facilities) to consider renaming the Las Cruces Public Schools Administration building complex at 505 S. Main Street, Suite 249 after the late Superintendent Dr. Karen Trujillo.

According to policy FFA Naming School Facilities, the Board of Education has the prerogative to select a name after a distinguished person, living or deceased, who has made an outstanding contribution to the community, county, state, or nation. Names that recognize and/or reflect the state’s traditions and heritage are encouraged for consideration.

The Board of Education will also give strong consideration to names of women and minorities, and to those who have historical significance (including Hispanics, Native Americans, Chinese, African Americans, and others) so that these are equitably represented among district schools. If the proposed name is that of an individual still living, the board must obtain approval of the individual.

As proposed by the LCPS Board of Education, the committee was tasked with soliciting public input to rename the LCPS administration complex in honor of the late Superintendent Dr. Karen Trujillo.

The survey will be available in English and Spanish on the district website. Staff and community members are encouraged to take the survey and provide input. The survey will go live on April 20th and will close on April 28, 2021. The survey can be found at LCPS.net and will be emailed to staff and sent to LCPS parents via InTouch text notification.
