SmartCents provides coaching for budgeting and saving

Posted

In late 2019, Dave Knapp decided the financial-management strategies he had employed for himself might be helpful for others, so he opened SmartCents Personal Financial Coaching from his home office.

Calling it a one-man operation, Knapp said his mission is “to provide financial coaching services to individuals and couples who are tired of living paycheck to paycheck and are ready to eliminate their money stresses.”

He did in-person consultations until the pandemic began, and then he adapted.

“I have transitioned to using online capabilities such as Zoom, Skype and FaceTime, along with phone calls,” he said.

Regardless of how the consultations take place, he said the goals are the same.

“I provide financial coaching services focused on reducing money stresses,” he said. “I teach and coach money behavior changes enabling clients to improve their spending and saving habits, reduce and eliminate debt and save for immediate and long-term financial goals.”

Knapp said most clients benefit from learning how to control spending first, and then nurturing saving habits.

“I focus on teaching and coaching basic budgeting skills and encouraging gradual life-altering changes to my clients’ spending behaviors,” he said. “My clients have successfully reduced and eliminated significant credit card and other debt burdens, and they have built up their savings for meeting short- and long-term financial goals.”

Getting started, Knapp said, is free, and if the client finds the initial consultation helpful, then a program for long-term consultation can be arranged.

“I offer a free 30-60 minute consult via phone or Zoom, Skype or FaceTime,” he said. “We take a brief look at their current financial situation during this session. I provide feedback, encouragement and some initial steps for the client to take, and we decide if establishing a coaching program will be of benefit to them.”
