Solid-waste protocols shift during pandemic

To ensure continued functionality of solid-waste system, the following restrictions have been instituted at solid-waste facilities in Las Cruces and Doña Ana County.

  • Amador Transfer Station, 2865 Amador Ave.: Essential businesses only. Closed to the public. Closed Sundays for cleaning and disinfection.
  • Las Cruces Recycling Center Dropoff, 2855 Amador Ave.: Closed to the public.
  • Sonoma Ranch Recycling drop-off center, 555 S. Sonoma Ranch Blvd.: Closed to the public.
  • Corralitos Regional Landfill, 14535 Robert Larson Blvd.: Closed to the public.
  • County collection centers: Punch-card system suspended, hours for public use limited to Saturdays and Sundays 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Limit, four bags of waste per vehicle. No yard waste or construction/demolition waste accepted.
  • Chaparral Collection and Recycling center, 180 McCombs Rd.: Open to essential businesses only. Residential fees suspended. Hours for public use limited to Saturdays and Sundays 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Limit, four bags of waste per vehicle.
  • Old Foothills Landfill (clean fill, green waste and compost), 555 S. Sonoma Ranch Blvd.: Essential businesses only. Closed to the public. Hours, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
  • Curbside residential green waste by the grappler truck remains on schedule. Schedule accessible at: las-cruces.org/Grappler/Grappler

Essential businesses must supply written documentation of essential status to access solid-waste facilities.

All facilities remain open to regional commercial trash haulers during normal business hours.

Through emergency alerts, the state is encouraging residents to stay home. The SCSWA will reopen its facilities to normal business protocols as soon as possible.

The SCSWA can be reached at 575-528-3800 from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The SCSWA manages solid waste and recyclables for residences and businesses throughout Doña Ana County.

At Las Cruces Utilities, customers who receive bills via email will see a new return address: operations@postalpros.com. E-billing customers are advised to Please be sure to update their contacts list to ensure e-bills do not go to spam/junk mail folders.

“Starting with the March 2020 billing cycle, some e-bills were heading into customers’ spam folders,” said Jose Provencio, LCU’s deputy director of business services. “Please check your spam folder.
