A 10-year public transportation plan for the South Central Regional Transit District will be launched this fall, regional planners informed the District Board. The $62,500 study and plan, funded through a Grant from the New Mexico Department of Transportation and District Members will be conducted by SBLB, LLC. SCRTD last conducted a study and produced the SCRTD Service & Financial plan in 2015. That plan is available via the Districts website at scrtd.org.
“The Plan looks at regional goals and objectives for public transit, route designs, local and regional funding sources, performance measures and targets, levels of service and what areas should be served by transit”, according to David Armijo, Executive Director.
“We need to focus on how to respond to growing demand for public transportation throughout our region while identifying funding to ensure sustainability,” said Javier Perea, District Chair and Mayor, the City of Sunland Park.
SBLB, LLC was selected based on its past experience and expertise in transit planning, ridership, forecasting modeling and its track record working with transit agencies. Kirk Scott, SBLB, LLC will be the project manager and will direct the planning process and coordinate input and feedback from regional transit operators, including the Mesilla Valley Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) and the City’s RoadRunner transit system.
The SCRTD website will be updated throughout the planning process so that the public can receive up to date information and to participate in the study via online surveys.
